Kyaw Thu

Kyaw Thu (born 2 November 1959) is a two-time Myanmar Academy Award winning film actor and film director. One of the top leading men of Burmese cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, Kyaw Thu has starred in over 200 films and has directed several successful films. Since the early 2000s, Kyaw Thu has devoted much time to do social work for the poor, and in the process has gradually emerged as a vocal critic of the Burmese military government. Kyaw Thu is married to Myint Myint Khin Pe. They have a son, Pyi Thein Kyaw, and a daughter, Myint Mo Oo, and grandsons, Wunna Kyaw Zin and Thiha Kyaw Zin.

May Than Nu (born on 27 January 1961) is a Burmese film actress. She has won 5 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards throughout her career. May Than Nu was born Than Than Hsint in Mergui, Tenasserim Division, Burma (now Myeik, Myanmar) on 27 January 1961. She debuted with the film Thingyan Moe, playing the daughter of Khin Than Nu. May Than Nu was previously married to Sin Yaw Mg Mg, with whom she has a son, Min Thant Maung Maung. Films : Thingyan Moe (1985), Kyan Sit Min (2005), Yadana (2006), Eternal Mother (2017)

History of Myanmar Film

Burma's first film was a recording of the funeral of Tun Shein - a leading politician of the 1910s, who campaigned for Burmese independence in London. It was captured with a second-hand camera by Ohn Maung and was screened at the Royal Cinema, near Scott Market (now Bogyoke Market), which belonged to a Mr Achar, a friend of Ohn Maung. Despite its documentary nature, the Burmese public was very proud of the film, which opened with the notice "Please accept our apologies for the poor quality of the film".
